A Message From IAOMT President, Dr. Terry Messerman:

Extensive Evidence Demonstrates the Hazards of Mercury Amalgam Fillings to Patients, Dental Personnel and the Environment

Greetings, fellow dental professionals, and welcome to the second issue of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology newsletter. This issue focuses on a key area of interest to not only the dental profession but also to anyone concerned with public health: the continued use of mercury amalgam fillings.

Bill Prohibiting Dental Mercury Before Current Congress

A Congressional bill currently before the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee would "prohibit after 2008 the introduction into interstate commerce of mercury intended for use in a dental filling," radically changing dental practice.

Genetic Susceptibility to Mercury Exposure

A growing body of evidence is demonstrating that certain subsets of the population may be genetically more susceptible than the general public to the effects of mercury toxicity. For those in the dental profession, these reports should raise additional concerns about the continued use of mercury-containing amalgam fillings.
